The Silverstone Classic weekend is a celebration of classic cars including car displays from over 100 car clubs, including the Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club (JEC) of course.
The event also promises classic motor racing on the famous circuit, driving activities, live music and aerial displays. In this week’s blog Assistant General Manager, James Blackwell, talks more about JEC’s involvement at this spectacular show, below:
At the end of July the Silverstone Classic returns — did you know that the event was originally launched in 1990 and was one of the first to focus entirely on historic motor racing?
Now in its 26###sup/sup### year, Silverstone Classic is one of the forerunners in historic racing alongside Goodwood’s Festival of Speed and Revival.
This exciting event takes place over the course of three days and has the logo ‘Rocking and Racing’, which was coined from the festival atmosphere created. And it’s not wrong!
Jaguar always has a huge presence both on and off the track. Off the track the Jaguar Clubs take up the Copse Banking area and our members form a huge part of that, with over 200 Jaguars booked to take part this year. If you’re a Jaguar fan you won’t want to miss this special weekend.
So why is Silverstone Classic such a special event?
There are too many reasons to list, the cars on show are quite simply amazing, from Jaguars, to MG, to Ferrari, Lamborghini and many more — over 100 Car Clubs form the classic car displays so you are not short of a distraction, or ten…
Walking the paddocks is always a highlight, all paddocks are all open for everyone to walk right up to the stars of the show. Some of the cars are irreplaceable and worth millions and this is your chance to get close to them, and then of course the chance to see some of your favourites racing around the track.
There is something for everyone at Silverstone Classic, with plenty to keep the whole family entertained. The big wheel is always a great attraction providing stunning views over the event and a unique perspective of what is going on for miles around.
Much of a draw though is not one thing, but the whole package, which includes large racing grids, food, trade stalls, Car Club displays, track parades and evening entertainment with great music and this year I understand the Boom Town Rats and The Stranglers will be taking to the stage.
The trick with Silverstone is get there early and don’t be in a rush to get home — take your time to take in that rocking and racing atmosphere. And talking of racing — that kicks off early and goes right into the evening…Take a picnic, camp, stay over in a local hotel — why not make a real weekend of it?
This year the JEC hope to bring you the best images from the event through our social media, particularly Twitter and Instagram, so if you can’t be there in person keep an eye on our social media channels for further insight into this spectacular event…
