Jaguars of the Royal Family

The Royal family are known for their love and support of great British marques, frequently being seen in Bentleys and the Queen loves her trademark V8 Defender. Did you know that the Windsors have a long history with Jaguar also? We’ve outlined some of their most significant motoring partnerships for you below to mark our upcoming event at Windsor castle.

Jaguar X-Type estate

The Queen owned this particular 2009 Jaguar X-Type estate for only seven years before parting ways in 2016. This particular estate car was used by her majesty for driving around her (ahem) estate when the Defender was deemed unnecessary. Under the bonnet is the 288bhp 3.0L V6 engine mated to a 5-speed auto ‘box. What makes this particular car so special is that upon sale it only had 7,600 miles on the odometer, a testament to one careful previous owner.

Daimler V8 Super LWB

Before the X-Type estate came this exquisite Daimler V8 Super LWB, used for transport within Windsor castle as well as to and from Buckingham palace. As one would expect from her majesty this vehicle was far from standard, in addition to security lighting throughout the vehicle exterior the  car also had a bespoke control panel that replaced the ash tray. To make sure the interior was as suited as possible to her majesty the centre armrest is extendable to fit the Queen’s handbag when in the vehicle.

The Daimler was not short on power, however, housing a 375bhp Supercharged V8 to ensure that Her Majesty was never tardy for her appointments.

Jaguar MK VII Saloon

Finished in Royal Claret Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother took delivery of her MKVII saloon in 1955 and liked it so much that she kept it in her private collection until 1973. This car is an example of the Mark VIIM model which was produced from 1954, but was later updated for Her Majesty with features from the Mark VIII/IX models, such as the one-piece windscreen. Upon sale the car came back to Jaguar in 1973.

Jaguar XJ-SC V12 Cabriolet

This soft top Jaguar was owned by Princess Diana who used the car between 1987-1991 after which date it was donated to the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust in return for a donation to her charity. What marks this Jaguar out from the rest of the production models is that this particular features a bench seat in the rear, as opposed to the conventional two-seat set up to create an environment for the young Princes William and Harry.

THE ROYAL WINDSOR JAGUAR FESTIVAL

The Royal Windsor Jaguar Festival will be an event like no other.  Set in the majestic surroundings of Windsor Castle, the Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club has been invited by the Prince Philip Trust Fund to assemble a unique Jaguar display and parade with the ultimate goal of raising funds to support this great cause.

The Prince Philip Trust Fund raises money to help young people living in the Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead, having been established using a small sum of money taken from contributions to fundraising events that took place during Her Majesty The Queen’s Silver Jubilee celebrations in 1977. Since this modest beginning, the Trust Fund has benefited from a number of special fundraising events including several car rallies, and it is in this tradition that the Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club is organising the Royal Windsor Jaguar Festival.

Booking is now open for the Festival Welcome Events on Friday 5th May, Long Walk tickets on Saturday 6th May or to join us in the evening at our Festival at Windsor Racecourse. For more details or to book, contact us here.

We have a number of highly-qualified experts who can inspect your vehicle prior to purchase and provide you with a full written report. In addition to their complete understanding of the mechanical and aesthetic aspects of vehicle inspection, they have extensive experience with the Jaguar marque which perfectly equips them to identify the unique requirements of specific models and years, something that is particularly important for older cars.

The cost of an inspection begins at £100, with the final figure determined by the time needed and the distance the inspector is required to travel. We can guarantee that your inspection will be cheaper than an equivalent AA or RAC inspection.

This small upfront outlay could save you thousands in the long term.

To arrange an inspection simply call JEC Head Office on 0117 969 8186 and they will provide you with details of your nearest inspector.

Also from our club HQ in Bristol we can give you an official valuation for insurance purposes. Our valuations are accepted by all leading insurance brokers and Companies.

GETTING STARTED

Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club Insurance is designed specifically for members of the JEC. That’s why it covers JEC TrackSport events and offers cover for JEC Young Enthusiasts. Furthermore, the scheme recognises that members may have a combination of newer and more historic Jaguars and so the scheme caters for all, other individually or part of a multi-vehicle offering.

Club insurance doesn’t operate the way standard insurance does. While it does still take a vehicle’s mechanical characteristics into account, it also places a lot of emphasis on how the vehicle is used, cared for and maintained.

Club insurance also offers a host of benefits and products that you simply cannot get outside of membership of the JEC, such as member to member cover for example. This enables you to drive your friends Jaguars at regional meets, events and on tours with fully comprehensive cover and without the need to complete more paperwork or ring up and incur costs for adding named drivers.

This way, you’ll be comfortable knowing that you have a policy that fits your vehicle and your usage needs perfectly.
