A short history of JEC GLASGOW REGION

The Regional Club was founded in 1990.

The story began shortly after Jim Colville purchased his Series II Jaguar XJ6.

Jim did not know how to restore the car so he asked around and he was advised to join the Jaguar Enthusiasts' Club. When he started reading the Club's Magazine he thought there might be a need for a Glasgow Region.

He contacted the area liaison person at that time and assistance was duly rendered. The Club gave Jim a note of all the existing signed up national members in his area and off he went. Jim then sent out 80 letters inviting them to form a \\JEC Glasgow Regional Club \\and received three replies.

The four resulting founding members were:

Ken Gorman, Chris Magnus, Ken Rae and Jim Colville. The first meeting was held in August 1990 at the Burnside Hotel in Burnside, Rutherglen. The four members each took a turn with the expenses to help get the club off the ground.

After 33 years the Region's club night is still at the Burnside Hotel.

Two of the four founding members, Jim Colville & Ken Gorman, are still active members of JEC Glasgow Region. If you need advice, or just want to talk Jaguar for an evening, the Burnside Hotel is a must. Within the Regional membership there is a vast body of knowledge on all things Jaguar.

Committee Members for 2024 - 2025

Regional Organiser: Jim Colville

Meetings

Meetings take place on the second Wednesday of the month from 7.30pm at the Burnside Hotel, 7 East Kilbride Road, Burnside, Glasgow G73 5EA.

The hotel now charges the club for the use of our private room and we have therefore put in place a contribution fee of £2 per member attending an evening meeting. This fee covers tea & coffee and the overall cost of the room etc is subsidised from regional club funds.

In addition to our evening meetings we have started to enjoy some Breakfast Meets on a Saturday morning which would take place in a month instead of the evening meeting. Members will be notified in advance on the dates of these Saturday Breakfast Meets. Individual members will have to confirm their wish to attend so that we can book a place and they must cover their costs of tea & coffee and filled breakfast rolls at the meeting. The room is limited to 24 places for our Breakfast Meets.

Whatever your Jaguar (or if you have just started looking), come along and you will find....someone who has one....or used to have one....or wants one too....or someone who will sell you one. In any case you are assured of a warm welcome from members and the committee.

Agreed values

We have a number of highly-qualified experts who can inspect your vehicle prior to purchase and provide you with a full written report. In addition to their complete understanding of the mechanical and aesthetic aspects of vehicle inspection, they have extensive experience with the Jaguar marque which perfectly equips them to identify the unique requirements of specific models and years, something that is particularly important for older cars.

The cost of an inspection begins at £100, with the final figure determined by the time needed and the distance the inspector is required to travel. We can guarantee that your inspection will be cheaper than an equivalent AA or RAC inspection.

This small upfront outlay could save you thousands in the long term.

To arrange an inspection simply call JEC Head Office on 0117 969 8186 and they will provide you with details of your nearest inspector.

Also from our club HQ in Bristol we can give you an official valuation for insurance purposes. Our valuations are accepted by all leading insurance brokers and Companies.

GETTING STARTED

Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club Insurance is designed specifically for members of the JEC. That’s why it covers JEC TrackSport events and offers cover for JEC Young Enthusiasts. Furthermore, the scheme recognises that members may have a combination of newer and more historic Jaguars and so the scheme caters for all, other individually or part of a multi-vehicle offering.

Club insurance doesn’t operate the way standard insurance does. While it does still take a vehicle’s mechanical characteristics into account, it also places a lot of emphasis on how the vehicle is used, cared for and maintained.

Club insurance also offers a host of benefits and products that you simply cannot get outside of membership of the JEC, such as member to member cover for example. This enables you to drive your friends Jaguars at regional meets, events and on tours with fully comprehensive cover and without the need to complete more paperwork or ring up and incur costs for adding named drivers.

This way, you’ll be comfortable knowing that you have a policy that fits your vehicle and your usage needs perfectly.
